In 2009, Alaina won the inaugural WinniSTAR Youth Talent Contest at Lake Winnepesaukah amusement park.In addition to singing, Alaina wrote several songs like Leaving and the song Set Me Free. Alaina's cousin Holly Witherow was diagnosed with brain cancer. This encouraged her to begin singing. Alaina was a CiC's Pizza employee prior to joining Idol. She attended Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe Senior High School, which is located within Fort Oglethorpe Georgia.
